Many media reports have indicated that heavily armed gunmen disrupted a burial ceremony at Banigo Isile-Ogono community in Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State. The armed men shot sporadically in the air, while abducting many dignitaries present at the funeral rites of a prominent citizen of BONNY kingdom.
The incident which occurred over the weekend left many who were scampering for their lives injured including the leader of the Bonny legislative, Hon. Miriam Hart
Nnamdi Omoni, Spokesperson of the State Police Command who confirmed the incident noted that the gunmen took to their heels when they sighted a detachment of police officers.
He also stated that police officers have been stationed in the community to forestall another attack.
