Rivers State Governor, Barr, Nyesom Wike has berated the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike for questioning his absence at the burial of late former four-time federal minister, Alabo Graham Douglas.
Amaechi, during the funeral said that the elder statesman ought to have been given a state burial, and wondered why the Rivers State Government shunned the funeral.
However, Gov. Wike during the commissioning of a project in Port Harcourt on Monday, said he chose not to attend the funeral because it was politicized.
According to him, the state spent about N50 million on the health of Alabo before he died, and questioned where Amaechi was during that period.
He stated that Amaechi never did anything or contributed a dime to save Graham Douglas, but chose to honor him in death.
Wike revealed that the deceased begged Amaechi on different occasions to honor him, by constructing the Abonnema ring road, the Trans-Kalabari road amongst other things, but Amaechi turned down his request.
The Governor also said that he honored the late minister by awarding him with the highest honor of the state, and constructed the Abonnema road.
He explained that Amaechi attended the funeral because he has interest in the family.
Alabo Graham Douglas, a four-time federal minister who died few months ago at the age of 83 was laid to rest at his hometown in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday.
