Today Thursday, 23 February, 2023 was a very busy day for Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, officials of the Rivers State Government, and staff of Rivers State Ministry of Works as two key road projects constructed by the state government were officially commissioned.
The dualiazed Azikiwe-Iloabuchi Road was commissioned in the morning hours of the day, thereafter, Edeokia/Okuru-Abuloma Jetty-Femie Junction was inaugurated all by the Executive Governor of Rivers State.
Providing the project description at the commissioning of of Azikiwe-Iloabuchi Road, Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo, FNIQS said the project was completed to scope by the contractor.
“This project was flagged off exactly six months ago and it has been completed to scope by Julius Berger. This road is very important because it decongests traffic on Aba Road from Water Lines, and Ikwerre Road, it also leads us to Agip.
“It has street lights, it has improved the landscape of this area, it has also improved the socio-economic dynamics of the area,” he said.
On the part of Abuloma Road project, the Commissioner maintained that the road was constructed with composite pavement to enable it last for decades.
“We have very heavy traffic on Abuloma Road, what we did is composite pavement which is a combination of reinforced concrete pavement and asphalt ontop of it. We are very sure it is going to last for at least 20 to 25 years,” the Commissioner added.
In his remarks before commissioning Azikiwe-Iloabuchi Road, Governor Nyesom Wike asserted that many people doubted that the project will be completed in six months time.
“When we flagged off the construction of this project, so many people doubted the possibility of the completion time in the scope of the project. But today we thank God that it has been completed as scheduled.
“I pleaded with the residents and those doing business here to bear with us and cooperate with Julius Berger. I want to commend them for their cooperation that aided the timely completion of the project,” he added.
Addressing the people at the commissioning ceremony of Abuloma Road, Governor Wike commended the contractor for delivering a quality job.
“I want to congratulate the contractor for a job well done, this place is just like GRA. This is the same contractor that handled the Victoria Street project, if you go there now you will see how good it is,” the Governor stated.
