Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is expected to join the Rainbow Coalition in the state upon his return to Nigeria.
Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike claimed that Fubara informed him of his intention before travelling abroad.
According to the FCT minister, “Governor Fubara called me before he travelled out of the country. He will be joining the Rainbow Coalition once he returns.”
The development comes amid a prolonged political rift between Wike and his successor, Fubara, over the control and leadership of Rivers State’s political structure.
The dispute, which has dominated the state’s political landscape for months, led to moves by lawmakers to impeach the governor and contributed to heightened political tensions in the state. The crisis eventually culminated in the declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State by the Federal Government.
Neither Governor Fubara nor his aides had publicly responded to Wike’s claim as of the time of filing this report.
