Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is part of Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior government officials.
The delegation is being led by Shettima, following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu authorising the Vice President to represent him at the international gathering and deliver Nigeria’s national statement.
The annual General Assembly brings together world leaders and representatives of member states to deliberate on pressing global issues and strengthen international cooperation.
The 81st session commenced on September 8, 2026, with the high-level General Debate scheduled to hold from September 22 to 28.
This year’s gathering is themed, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
Discussions are expected to address key issues, including sustainable development, climate action, healthcare, peace and security, as well as emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence.
Governor Fubara’s presence at the meeting places Rivers State among the Nigerian delegation participating in the high-level diplomatic engagements at the United Nations.
