Former Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ceded political control of the state to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during negotiations that followed the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.
Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, Ewor claimed that Fubara had agreed to the arrangement well before the governor publicly acknowledged the reconciliation process, adding that the governor’s comments on Wednesday only confirmed what insiders had known since the negotiations.
Ewor’s claims come after Governor Fubara on Wednesday declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement made up of members of different political parties in Rivers State and led by Wike.
According to Ewor, Fubara agreed during the talks to concede control of all 23 local government areas, political appointments, and state parastatals to Wike’s camp. He also alleged that the governor undertook not to seek a second term in office.
The former PDP acting chairman further argued that the account Governor Fubara presented to Rivers residents and Nigerians about the political crisis did not accurately reflect what transpired during the closed-door negotiations.
