MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar, and he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house”. (1kgs.1:53)
READ: 1 KINGS 1:50-53
50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me today that he will not slay his servant with the sword. 52 And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. 53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
Self-exaltation will lead to nothing else but shame and destruction. When Adonijah ran to the temple and held the horns of the temple, he was indirectly pleading for mercy. Thank God for king Solomon who never used his position arrogantly. He sent and brought Adonijah down, and sent him back to his house. Remember that Adonijah was an elder brother to Solomon. As a senior prince, he was supposed to be in charge of all that was happening today since his father was old and sickly. Pride and selfishness robbed him of that privilege. In shame, he came and bowed to his younger brother. Selfishness kept him in isolation camp on the day of National celebration.
Self-exaltation robs a man of his rightful place in destiny. Adonijah did not just lose the crown, he also lost his place as a respectable prince who should have the privilege of eating from the king’s table and probably be one of the king’s advisers on kingdom matters. All the people that sentimentally followed Adonijah in his selfish, godless move lost their position in the kingdom. Abiatha lost his position as the priest. He was sent back to Anathoth unto his own fields (1kgs. 2:26). Joab lost his position as army commander and died shamefully (1kgs.2:31). You cannot mingle with the wrong people or join the wrong party and get the right result, be wise.
TURNING POINT: You cannot mingle with the wrong people or join the wrong party and get the right result, be wise.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, give me the discernment to see and follow what is right so that I can end up in the right place.
