MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.”(Exo.15:23)
READ: EX.15:22-24
22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: herefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
The word Marah was first mentioned in this text, it means bitterness. Here Israel just finished their celebration of victory over Pharaoh and their deliverance from the red sea. After the exhilarating praise session, they needed water to quench their thirst and refresh themselves for the journey ahead. But the water was bitter; they could not drink it. Unfortunately, Israel forgot the miraculous deliverance from Egypt, the death of all the first born, the dividing of the red sea and the miraculous drowning of Pharaoh and all his armies. Your ability to remember what God did yesterday and believe Him for the circumstances of today is what makes you a champion.
Marah experiences will always rear their ugly heads at various points of our lives. No matter what you do to prevent it. Most times it comes at the peak of your celebration period just to corrupt your testimony. The story of the widow of Zerephat is a clear proof of this truth. While the whole country languished in hunger and dryness, God sent His prophet Elijah to her to give her and her household sustenance. It was not long; her only son took ill and was at the point of death. Those who were suffering hunger in the Land remained alive. But her son that was nourished with food by miraculous provision took ill and almost died. In every Marah experience, God is working behind the scene to reveal another aspect of His merciful interventions to you. That Marah experience is not the end of the road for you, trust God.
TURNING POINT: In every Marah experience, God is working behind the scene to reveal another aspect of His merciful interventions to you.
PRAYER POINT: Father, see me through every Marah and bring me to my Elim in Jesus name.
