MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “And, all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way; and Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went and caught hold on the horns of the altar. (1kings.1:49-50)
READ: 1 KINGS 1:41-50
41 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar? 42 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings. 43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king. 44 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule: 45 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard. 46 And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom. 47 And moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed. 48 And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it. 49 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way. 50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
When you pitch your tent with the wrong people you are bound to be disappointed. The moment Solomon was anointed and proclaimed to be the new king of Israel, all the people that followed and supported Adonijah were disappointed in their choice. Fear gripped their hearts and one after the other they disappeared shamefully to their homes. They could not stay to encourage or fight for their chosen king. This is the pain most selfish and self-acclaimed leaders of our days suffer. At their most difficult moment, those who supported and even sponsored their campaigns suddenly decamp from them, leaving them to suffer alone.
In his loneliness and fear, Adonijah ran to the temple and held unto the horns of the temple, pleading for mercy. Beloved, the triumph of the enemy lasts but for a moment. I see them coming to submit to you this season because of what the Lord will do in your life. Jesus made it very clear that those who exalt themselves shall be brought low. This was exactly what happened to Adonijah. Sometime ago, I watched a movie where a lady cunningly walked her way into the life of young man who was already married to another woman. She took over the house, riding big cars and flaunting herself before her friends. But this glory was short lived because the man’s wife suddenly returned from overseas and she was thrown out with nothing. She lost her dignity of womanhood and became a laughing stock among her friends. Every seat won by treachery and blackmail will eventually fall breaking the backbone of its occupant.

PRAYER POINT: Lord, help me to stay in the right purpose so that the right people will be around me.
