MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scripture” (Lk.24:45).
READ: EPH.1:18-23
18 the eyes of your [a]understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality[b] and [c]power and [d]might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
The greatest challenge the apostles of Christ had was spiritual blindness. For three and half years they walked, eat and slept with Christ but they never understood who He was and His mission on earth. Even when Peter proclaimed Him as the Christ the Son of the Living God, He soon turned back to his physical reasoning and began to rebuke Him when He spoke about His death (Matt. 16:22).
At a particular instance, Philip voiced out his ignorance, “show us the father and we shall be satisfied” (John 14:8). They lacked understanding of the teaching of Christ concerning His mission on earth, so they all acted in very strange ways to fulfill negative prophesies. Judas decided to sell Him just to make few extra coins. Probably believing that He would disappear as usual. In his blindness he failed to understand that he betrayed an innocent blood until it was too late.
All the Apostles ran away and went into hiding because they were afraid of the Jews, not knowing that it was a season of total triumph of light over darkness. They dismissed the resurrection story as women gossip and remained in sorrow (John.20:11) when their Lord has already conquered death, sin and the grave. The Psalmist prayed, “open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy word” (Ps.119:18).
This prayer is very important for every saint of today, the moment the weary disciples received the understanding that the one they had seen and ate with was the Lord, fear gave way to boldness and they began to proclaim the good news. Understanding your place in God is the key to the new level of grace and glory you desire.
TURNING POINT: Understanding your place in God is the key to the new level of grace and glory you desire.
PRAYER POINT: Lord open the eyes of my heart that I may see You.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: JOB.1,2,3; ACTS.7:1-19
