TEXT: JOHN 9:1-12
MEMORY VERSE: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4 KJV)
We must do God’s will and render services to Him and to humanity while we have life, time, energy, good health, good finances, mental capacity, good relationship with God, the guidance and support of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and the like. This is the ‘day’. The ‘night’ is that time when we would not have the opportunity or be able to do these things.
In John 6:27-29, when our Lord told the people not to work for carnal desires and satisfaction but for spiritual gains that lead to eternal life, they asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” (v 28). He replied, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent” (v 29 NIV).
The first work is to truly believe in the Lord Jesus. He said, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46 NIV). People who do not obey Him by living according to what the word of God says (that is, a life of practical Christianity), do not take Him truly to be their Lord.
Such people “… profess to know God [to recognize, perceive, and be acquainted with Him], but deny and disown and renounce Him by what they do [by their works and lifestyle] …” (Titus 1:16). AMP).
They have another lord and master whom they obey; that is, Satan the devil. The Bible says, “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Rom. 6:16 NKJV). Let us do the right work so that we would have eternal life with God.
- Ensure that you obey God’s word in all that you do.
- Lord, help me to live by your word and obey you always.
