MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeopardized their lives unto the death in the high places of the field” (Judg. 5:18)
READ: JUDGES 5:17-22
17 Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches. 18 Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field. 19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money. 20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. 21 The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength. 22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones.
Some days ago, we traced the failure and captivity of the Benjamites to the fact that they tried to stand alone, refusing to involve their brethren in their battle. We continued by stressing the importance of unity and ones of spirit in all the battles of life. Today, in Deborah’s song, we discovered that this all-important formula (fighting as a single entity) was employed in this great battle against Sisera, the captain of the King of Hazor and his troops. My heart is towards the Governor of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. “Then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gates” (Judg.5:9,11)
The leaders’ heads of the tribes of Israel mustered their armies, encouraged their people to come out en-mass and fight the LORD’s battle. Unity is still the strength of the church and of any other organization today. We must learn to speak one language and mind the same thing. Unity begins when we begin to see the peculiarity and importance of one another. You may be a genius in your choosing area or areas of your gifting, but there are other geniuses in other areas. You need them as well as they need you.
Pretending that you are self-sufficient and do not need anyone is a sign of pride or inferiority complex. Deborah mentioned the tribe of Zebulun and Naphtali as risk takers in this all-important war. It is important you understand your capacity and function fully. Your best cook may be someone’s good, do not get intimidated, just do your best.
TURNING POINT: You may be a genius in your choosing area or areas of your gifting, but there are other geniuses in other areas. You need them as well as they need you.
PRAYER POINT: Father, bind Your people together with the cord of love that cannot be broken.
