MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Ps.23:1)
READ: PSALM 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
One great responsibility of the shepherd is to lead the sheep to a place of greener pastures. Note, the shepherd does not feed the sheep, but leads the sheep to pasture, where it feeds to satisfaction. A lot of Christians pray long prayers, quote many scriptures, attend great camp meetings, and remain poor, sick and miserable. This is because, most times, we fail in our own part of the bargain. Child of God, understand this truth, “God will not do everything for you.” When you need garri or tapioca and God gives you cassava, He expects you to use the wisdom and knowledge He has given to you to turn your cassava to flour. The children of Israel were not given baked cake in the wilderness; they were given manna, a seed- like stuff. They were to kneed and bake it into cakes and breads suitable for food. As a good shepherd, the LORD leads His sheep beside still waters. Once there, the sheep stoops down to drink to its fill. Standing by the fountain of still waters, and praying for God to supply cups, and release His angels to fetch the water and pour it down your throat is slothfulness. God will not engage Himself in doing those things that He has given you the strength and wisdom to do for yourself. Again, remember that the shepherd leads the way while the sheep follows behind him. Any sheep that gets distracted and strays from the fold will not have the privilege of enjoying greener pastures with other sheep. It is dangerous to stray from the fold; because there are lions on the way seeking whom to devour.
TURNING POINT: God will not engage Himself in doing those things that He has given you the strength and wisdom to do for yourself.
PRAYER POINT: LORD, help me to remain in the sheepfold, and do those things that are required of me, so that my blessings will continue to flow.
