MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: ‘And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.”(Lk.9:10)
READ: LK.9:10-11
10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.
Most of the sicknesses we hear about and see in people, which even our loved one die of are all stress related. High blood pressure, diabetes, ulcers, asthma, name them are traceable to stress. Whether physical, mental or emotional, it’s a killer. Today the rate of people committing suicide including teenagers and university undergraduates is so alarming. Some of the stories we hear, which sometimes are extract from suicide notes are stories of mental trauma due to disappointments, failed expectations, neglect and abuse just to mention a few. The safest and most effective cure for stress is rest and vacation.
Even Jesus our great master, with His busy schedule, in a mission of bringing salvation to the whole world, He still found time to rest. He slept at the hinder part of the boat while driving to another town for the next meeting. Remember that we have these treasures in earthen vessels (2cor.4:7). Whatever great assignment you have and whatever grace you carry needs a strong and healthy body to manifest and operate. Proper and adequate rest revitalizes you to do better in whatever field. Rest can take different form from a short nap to a long break or even a vacation. All are important at different seasons of our lives. As your age increases, there is need for extension in your period of rest and also restraints in participating in certain activities. I believe so much in fasting and prayer. In fact, we have treated fasting as a series last month but also know that God still answers prayer without fasting. If you are not in good physical condition, then fasting may be suicidal. Remember, your body is God temple, taking care of your body means caring for God’s temple.
TURNING POINT: Whatever great assignment you have and whatever grace you have needs a strong and healthy body to manifest and operate.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, grant me the wisdom to know when my body needs a retreat.
