MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matt.11:36
READ: MATTHEW 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
The Christian life is a life of freedom and peace. Before the coming of Christ, the Jews served God under undue pressure. The demand of the law was so cumbersome. Added to that was the additional laws, rules and rituals introduced by the Pharisees making life more difficult for those who want to do the Will of God. Apostle Paul described the extent of this yoke in his epistle to the Corinthians. “O wretched man I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin” (Rom.7:24-25).
Jesus came preaching peace and salvation from the power of sin. Those who surrendered their lives to Him were freed from the yoke and bondage of sin. Jesus said, “My Yoke is easy” this means that you drop one yoke to pick up another yoke. Those who preach that grace has given them a license to live as they please should better look at this scripture again.
At conversion we drop the heavy yoke of guilt, condemnation and all the demands of the law, and pick up the righteousness of God, the grace that teaches us to depart from unrighteousness and worldly lust. (Tit. 2:11-15) We drop the satanic yoke of bondage to unrighteousness and pick up God’s yoke of righteousness and peace.
Indeed, His yoke is easy because we are no longer under the bondage of our cruel task masters, Satan and his agents but under the spirit of grace, enjoying the power of endless life.
TURNING POINT: Indeed His yoke is easy because we are no longer under the bondage of our cruel task masters, Satan and his agents but under the spirit of grace, enjoying the power of endless life.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, I choose to carry and remain under Yours yoke, help me in Jesus name.
