MEDITATION SCRIPTURE: “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt that ye may knew how ye ought to answer every man” (Col. 4:6)
READ: PROVERBS 15: 4
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
The tongue is the one of the most powerful organs in the body which performs both spiritual and physical function. It is the organ of speech and taste. No living human being can survive without a tongue. As important as the tongue is the bible calls it unruly evil. Fully of deadly poison when misused.
Many sins recorded in the bible are done through the tongue. Gossip, backbiting, boasting, lying, blasphemy etc are all sins of the tongue. In our anchor scripture, Apostle Paul admonished the Colossians that their speech should always be with grace, seasoned with salt. This means that their words should be soothing, bring healing and strength to the weak.
Well, speaking with grace is only possible if the tongue has received a touch of God’s grace, the conversion of the heart and renewal of the mind. This is so because the tongue is the monitor voicing out the content of the heart. Any act of taming or converting the tongue must begin from a change of heart by totally surrendering it to God and His eternal purpose.
The fruit of the tongue whether negative or positive is first enjoyed by the owner. This means that for as long as you keep hurting other people with your tongue, you are doing a great harm to yourself. You can save yourself unnecessary pain just by learning to say the right thing at the right time.
TURNING POINT: The fruit of the tongue whether negative or positive is first enjoyed by the owner.
PRAYER POINT: Father, purge my tongue and teach me to say the right thing always.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1CHRON.23,24,25; JN.11L:1-17.
