The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Chima Njoku, has offered temporary accommodation to four families displaced by flooding in Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Njoku, in a statement, said the gesture was aimed at providing temporary shelter to families affected by the worsening flooding in the area.
He said, “Please, if you’re a victim of flood around Eneka area and all hope is lost, I have a place for you for four families temporarily.”
Port Harcourt and its environs have witnessed severe flooding in recent weeks, with several communities submerged and families displaced from their homes.
The state government and relevant agencies have responded with relief materials for affected residents, although some stakeholders have described the interventions as inadequate.
They have also called for the desilting of canals and waterways, as well as the provision of adequate drainage infrastructure, to address the recurring flooding.
