TEXT: JOEL 1: 1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “Then I looked, and I heard a single eagle crying loudly as it flew through the air, ‘terror, terror, terror, to all who belong to this world, because of what will happen when the last three angels blow their trumpets” (Revelation 8:13 NLT).
In our text, Joel called attention to the calamity that would befall the people if they did not repent and turn away from their evil ways. It was a warning! (vs. 2-3).
In his vision, Joel saw a huge locust plague, lasting several months wiped out crops and caused food scarcity (vs. 4-6). It was going to be a national disaster; it was symbolic of the coming of the Day of the Lord (v 7): a time of punishment and anguish for disobedience. It called for genuine repentance (v 5),through abstinence from sin, and engaging in fasting, and prayers, so the pandemic would be averted (v 13).
This is typical of the Great Tribulation of Matthew 24:21, during which people sinners will experience extreme distress; for the world
Would be under the firm grip and controlled by the antichrist.
In our time, the period of COVID-19 pandemic with all its associated ills is likened to such an era. No nation was spared, including the Super-powers, for they were worst hit. Death toll rose daily. Industries, offices, markets, and even churches and mosques were locked down. Is this not enough for people to reason that the end time is nigh. Humanity is called to turn to God fully, as that is only what would avert the impending doom. But true believers shall be saved, and spared the calamity and anguish (Rev. 7:9). They shall form the triumphant community of God’s people, out of every nation, tribe, people, and tongue.
- You should work to be among the survivors of the great tribulation.
- Lord Jesus, it is my desire to be in the number. Grant me the grace to follow.
