TEXT: HEBREWS 8:1-6
MEMORY VERSE: “But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for He is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6 NLT
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
The great pride and boasting of Christianity is the empty tomb. He arose (Matt. 28:6). But far greater than the resurrection is that He ascended, and is right now seated at the right hand of power (Heb. 1:3, 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22). From this most exalted position, He reigns as Priest and King over all creation. (Eph. 1:20-22, Phil 2:9-11). Little wonder somescriptures describe Him as the Priest after the Order of Melchizedek – a Priest forever (Psalms 110:4; Heb. 5:6).
Having accomplished His sacrificial work on the Cross, He now occupies the greatest position of authority. From there, He has continued to function as High Priest. He thus ministers from heaven in the Holy of Holies of God’s Spiritual Sanctuary (Heb. 9: 8, 12).
Show me a true Christian, then I will show you a person that belongs to the highest order of priesthood through Christ’ssacrificial work at Calvary. This is because such a person is seated with Christ in heavenly places; a member of the royalpriesthood. (Eph. 2:6, 1 Peter 2:9).
Every true Christian should therefore, celebrate for Christ’s sake. He has perfected for us what the Levitical priesthood could not accomplish. He continually intercedes for the saints, even right now. Blessed be the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, forever.
- Are you aware that Jesus is still pleading our course even now? Worship and adore Him, Christ the Lord of all.
- Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to continue to know you the more, from glory to glory. Amen.
