TEXT: LUKE 10:25-42
MEMORY VERSE: “So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring in oil and wine and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an Inn and took care of him.” Luke 10:34 NKJV
Jesus explained the meaning of the good neighbor by using the parable of the Good Samaritan. In the story, a man who was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho fall victim to robbers who robbed him and beat him to coma.
A priest of God who supposedly should give him assistance by showing love and compassion did not. Likewise a Levite who took care of God’s temple did not help either. However, a Samaritan (there was much ill-feeling between the Jews and the Samaritans) who was considered a sinner took proper care of the man by exhibiting kindness and goodness. The Samaritan proved to be a good neighbor to the victim.

This parable emphasizes that inherent in true saving faith and obedience in compassion for those who are in need. There should be no barrier like religion, tribe, race, gender, colour, profession. Our good neighbor can be found anywhere, on the street, in the office, at school, the market place, farm, church etc., and we can be the good neighbor to anyone.
It is the responsibility of all believers to act in the love of Christ within them. Our neighbours are those who need us when it is in our power to help them (Proverbs 3:27). Let us show good neighbourliness anytime, anywhere, and to anyone. Try a little kindness. Show a little kindness. Shine your light for everyone to see. That is the essence of Christianity.
