ESOCS Devotional 5 July 2026 – Delight in God’s Presence
MEMORY VERSE: “”I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’” Psalm 122:1 NKJV
TEXT: PSALM 122: 1 – END
I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go into the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet have been standing
Within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem is built
As a city that is compact together,
4 Where the tribes go up,
The tribes of the Lord,
[a]To the Testimony of Israel,
To give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 For thrones are set there for judgment,
The thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
7 Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.”
8 For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, “Peace be within you.”
9 Because of the house of the Lord our God
I will seek your good.

In a busy world filled with distractions, pressure, and pain, many view time with God as a religious obligation. But David reminds us that true joy is found in God’s presence. He was excited about worship, not because of the building itself, but because of Who he would meet there, the living God.
To “delight” in God’s presence means to desire, value, and enjoy our time with Him. It’s not about performance or perfection, it’s about relationship. Like a child running to their loving father, we are invited into a space of safety, joy, and peace.
When we make space for God, whether in corporate worship or private devotion, our hearts are renewed, our minds are refreshed, and our perspective is restored. We are reminded that we are not alone, not forgotten, and not without purpose.
Sadly, many have lost this delight. Church becomes routine. Prayer becomes dry. Worship feels empty. But the problem is not with God, it’s with our hearts. The key is to return to that place of hunger and gladness, where the presence of God is our greatest desire.
Today, ask yourself: Do I still rejoice in being with God? Is His presence my delight or just another item on my list? Revival starts with renewed joy in simply being with Him.
Reflections
- When was the last time you felt truly excited to spend time with God?
- What distractions are stealing your delight in God’s presence?
- How can you make God’s presence a daily priority in your life?
Action Step
Set aside a time daily to be still before God and enjoy His presence. Join regular fellowship with other believers to strengthen your joy in worship. Eliminate distractions that compete with your time with God.
Prayer
- Father, restore my joy in your presence.
- Teach me to delight in you again.
- Let my heart be stirred like David’s, to run gladly into your house and sit with you daily, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
