TEXT: ACTS 19:8-20
MEMORY VERSE: “Now there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, who were doing this. And the evil spirit answered and said, ‘Jesus I know, and Paul I know. But who are you?” (Acts 19: 14-15 KJV).
The seven sons of Sceva did not have in them the qualification that Paul possessed, which was the calling and anointing of God, and the truth that he continued to maintain good works (Titus 3:8), after he had encountered Christ. He lived his life in sanctification, abandoned the world completely, and gained Christ, the King and Lord of all power and glory (Phil. 3:7-15).
The sons of Sceva belonged to the world, and failed because their life was not right with God. They did not have any relationship with Jesus, and were not connected to Him in any way. But Paul was different. Paul lived in God’s presence all the time, doing only the things that pleased Him. He was filled with the Holy Spirit; and carried the authority and power of Christ, for he was Christ’s ambassador. He was clean in God’s sight (John 15:3); a friend to Jesus (John 15:15); and a brother to Jesus (Rom. 8:29).
As God’s children, we should endeavour to live our life like Paul who taught us to forsake the world in order to gain Christ, live in Him, and let Him enter into our heart and live also (Rev. 3:20). Such attitude would lead us into becoming one with God, and He would grant us the enabling grace to overcome all things. We would not be like the seven sons of Sceva.
It is God’s will and pleasure that we be like His Son; for He craves to see His Son in us; and that we should carry His identity, and no other. It is project in which we are partners with Him. We should not fail in that project.
- Make it a goal to consciously align your life to be like Jesus.
- Lord, grant me the grace to follow Jesus every day of my life
