TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 4:1-21
MEMORY VERSE: “So we labour, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure. Being slandered, we kindly respond. We are made as the scum of the world and are the refuse of all things until now” (1 Corinthians 4: 12-13 KJV).
God’s motive for electing His stewards is for the purpose of propagating the gospel to the world in faithfulness, and with honest devotion (Matt. 28: 19-20). It is expected that they do this without allowing any form of distraction – whether persecution, material things of this world, hunger, or thirst (1 Cor. 7:35).
The apostles and disciples were God’s chosen stewards entrusted with the gospel (1 Peter 4:10). They were also faithful servants who ministered the gospel to the world with utmost commitment, even to the extent that they lost their lives (Rev. 12:11).
As stewards, God’s elects should be dedicated, faithful, zealous, and have a purposeful heart to achieve God’s objective. They should devote themselves to the calling, work effectively, and be resourceful at their duty posts, for the overriding factor is that the souls of people are committed into their hands, as partners in the salvation process. This makes their work a serious business.
They should teach and preach only the undiluted word of God; use their wealth and money for the kingdom business; apply their wisdom for godly purposes; use their gifts and talents for the edification of the Body of Christ; and maintain other good works.
In all these, God’s stewards should work with the consciousness that time is running out on the world, and that they should do all things, “Redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Eph. 5:16).
- Going forward, worship God with your possessions, hold nothing back.
- Lord, help me to remember always that everything I have belongs to you.
