TEXT: MARK 14:12-31
MEMORY VERSE: “And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, verily I say unto you, one of you which eateth with me shall betray me” (Mark 14:18 KJV).
For ages now, since after the betrayal and death of Christ, there has not ceased to exist in every congregation of the people of God, those who sell out the truth for personal benefit. In our text today, we see the beginning of betrayal in the body of Christ.
It should be realized that nothing is hidden from the Lord. He is omniscient and omnipresent. No thought or action of man escapes His attention. He knew the thoughts of Judas Iscariot. In verse 20, Jesus exposed his thought thus: “…. it is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.”
Despite the warning of our Lord, Judas was committed to his evil thoughts. This is the type of spirit we find in unrepentant Church members. Evil men persist in the midst of powerful evangelical and prophetic exploits. They are adamant. In verse 21 of our text, Jesus warns: “The son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the son of man is betrayed! Good were it for that man if he had never been born.” One lesson we must learn here is that betrayers never have a good end.
However, in our service to God, we should be prepared to face the betrayal and persecution that Jesus faced. We are not exempted from it; for whatever the world did to our Master, they would do to us (Matt. 10:24-26). We should be prepared to drink from that same cup of bitter sorrow and pain, and never be deterred. Jesus drank it, and the apostles drank it too.
But in all, what the Lord wants to see in us is the determination to carry the cross, and not look back.
Let us remain faithful to God in all things and not be betrayers of His pardon and grace by continuing a life of sin.
- Have you resolved to be faithful all the days of your life?
- I reject to betray the Lord’s interest. I will forever be faithful to the Lord.
