TEXT: MARK 14:32-52
MEMORY VERSE: “And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt” (Mark 14:36 KJV).
The truth is that we were created for a purpose. God has sent each one of us to this world for a purpose. This is particularly so for those who are called and anointed by God for His service. Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour is God who came in the nature and likeness of man to serve a divine purpose on earth. In John 1:1, 14 the Bible says of Jesus, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us….” As to his purpose on earth, John spoke in verse 29 saying, “… Behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.”In our text today, we saw Jesus on the hardest path of the journey to fulfil His purpose. But the burden of His mission was too heavy and made Him weary: “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful unto death …” (v 34). He wished like every man would do, that the cup passed over Him. But the Father’s will must be done: “… Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”
When we pray, let us ask according to the will of God: His thoughts and desire for us (Jer. 29:11). He knows what is best for us. Like our Lord, let us always resolve in our heart that whatever the Father finds fir for us is best for us. After His prayer, He said to the apostles, “…. sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come, behold, the son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners” (vv. 41, 43-52).
We should understand that God has plans for each one of us. Let us wait on Him. We shall reap the benefits.
- Have you ever felt disappointed in the outcome of your prayers? How did you react to such situation?
- Lord, I hand over my life to you. Take absolute charge. In Jesus name. Amen.
