ESOCS Devotional 28 June 2026 – The Devil Is No Match For God
MEMORY VERSE: “Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the LORD commanded it not? Lamentation 3:37 said, He will come.” 1 Samuel 23:11
TEXT: LAMENTATION 3:35-66
To turn aside the justice due a man
Before the face of the Most High,
36 Or subvert a man in his cause—
The Lord does not approve.
37 Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,
When the Lord has not commanded it?
38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
That woe and well-being proceed?
39 Why should a living man complain,
A man for the punishment of his sins?
40 Let us search out and examine our ways,
And turn back to the Lord;
41 Let us lift our hearts and hands
To God in heaven.
42 We have transgressed and rebelled;
You have not pardoned.
43 You have covered Yourself with anger
And pursued us;
You have slain and not pitied.
44 You have covered Yourself with a cloud,
That prayer should not pass through.
45 You have made us an offscouring and refuse
In the midst of the peoples.
46 All our enemies
Have opened their mouths against us.
47 Fear and a snare have come upon us,
Desolation and destruction.
48 My eyes overflow with rivers of water
For the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 My eyes flow and do not cease,
Without interruption,
50 Till the Lord from heaven
Looks down and sees.
51 My eyes bring suffering to my soul
Because of all the daughters of my city.
52 My enemies without cause
Hunted me down like a bird.
53 They silenced my life in the pit
And threw stones at me.
54 The waters flowed over my head;
I said, “I am cut off!”
55 I called on Your name, O Lord,
From the lowest pit.
56 You have heard my voice:
“Do not hide Your ear
From my sighing, from my cry for help.”
57 You drew near on the day I called on You,
And said, “Do not fear!”
58 O Lord, You have pleaded the case for my soul;
You have redeemed my life.
59 O Lord, You have seen how I am wronged;
Judge my case.
60 You have seen all their vengeance,
All their schemes against me.
61 You have heard their reproach, O Lord,
All their schemes against me,
62 The lips of my enemies
And their whispering against me all the day.
63 Look at their sitting down and their rising up;
I am their taunting song.
64 Repay them, O Lord,
According to the work of their hands.
65 Give them a veiled heart;
Your curse be upon them!
66 In Your anger,
Pursue and destroy them
From under the heavens of the Lord.

One of the truths that we can see from the resurrection of Jesus Christ is that the devil is no match for the Almighty God. The devil thinks that he is in competition with God. In Isaiah 14:12-14, the Scripture says, “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground … For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of Go … I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.” When God works, the devil tries to undo the work God is doing. He cannot succeed.
Whatever God organizes, the devil tries to antagonize. When Moses threw down his rod and it became a snake, the Egyptian magicians also threw down their rods, which turned also into snakes (Exod. 7:10-12). But the rod of Moses swallowed up the rods of the Egyptians because the devil was no match for the Almighty God. Today, every strange activity antagonizing the works of God in your life and destiny, may they be frustrated, in the name of Jesus.
We are in a war of Divinity against Satan and his kingdom.. One of the easiest way to know where God is working is to notice where Satan is antagonizing. When Goliath called on the name of his gods, David also called on the God of Israel (1 Sam. 17:44-47).
Every negative ‘terrorist’ and oppressive activity around your life and family is a confirmation of the interest of heaven in your life and that of your family. No doubt, you are destined for greatness, supernatural exploit, to be a blessing to your generation, and to subdue and take over territories. God has declared, “Thou art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms… With thee also will I break in pieces man and woman… and with thee will I break in pieces captains and rulers.” (Jer. 51:20-23). That is why the devil is interested in your life and destiny.
Surely, the devil’s interest is inconsequential, insignificant, remotely disconnected, and anonymous; it won’t see the light of day. He is very ambitious, but his ambition is only destined for frustration. This is what our text confirms to us. Don’t lose your grip on God. When a fearful little boy is moving with his father in the thick of the night, he tightens his grip on his father. This is what to do whenever it looks like darkness is going to overwhelm your life. Tighten your grip on your maker! Intensify your prayer life, fasting, worship, sacrifice, and giving.
Reflection
- Always recognize the eternal uselessness of the devil and damn him.
- Deepen your spirituality in time of trials.
Prayer
- Father, draw me close to you that no plan of the enemy against me shall come to pass.
