TEXT: GENESIS 22:1-18
MEMORY VERSE: “That in blessing, I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.” Genesis 22:17
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
The message of God comes to us through teachers of the gospel, prophets of God, personal revelations through dreams, trance etc. Sometimes, it could be a message that directs us on how to live our personal lives or on what to do to move forward in life or conquer the enemies. Howsoever it comes, the very first task is to ensure that it is the message of God. If you are satisfied that it is the message of the Almighty God in accordance with the scripture, then obedience is expected. Abraham usually got some of his messages from God through dreams of the night, and he knew the voice and ways of the God that spoke to him (vs. 1-2).
The next morning, Abraham took Isaac to offer as a sacrifice to God in accordance with the word of God. Though a difficult thing to do, he was quick to make the move. We must avoid delay when the word of God is plain and directed to us. We have to avoid consulting people to consider whether or not to obey. We should not subject the word of God to what we know or our experience. Abraham did none of these: “He rose up early in the morning and saddled his ass” to obey God (verses 3-10).
God is always in our company when we set out to obey Him. If it is the word of God that you anchor your life and actions on, then be sure that He is there to guide and make it perfect (vs. 11-12).
Quick obedience to the word of God is a physical manifestation of the fear of God. In verse 12b, God said to Abraham “… for now I know that thou feareth God.”
Again those who quickly obey the word of God receive God’s blessings more than the measure that they should ordinarily have got (vs. 12-18).
We are therefore advised to be quick in taking the step that God wants us to take.
- How often do you respond to the word of God directed to you with speed?
- Lord, speak to me and I will obey. Block every access of false messages in my life, in Jesus Name. Amen.
