TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands [who feels sure that he has a steadfast mind and is standing firm, take heed lest he fall [into sin].” 1 Corinthians 10:12 AMP
Spiritual Stability in the kingdom is a subject matter that is as vital as salvation. Have you ever wondered what happened to that pastor, church elder or church leader that you use to know with much fire and zeal burning for Jesus and things of the kingdom, but has suddenly lost the fire and zeal? Rising to a high position in the church or in religious affairs has never guaranteed spiritual stability in the kingdom; neither has getting involved in church work done so nor our years of service as believers. Apostle Paul began to reveal to us that it is very possible that a man can be saved, consistent with church activities, perhaps be a kingdom financier; yet, still live with the chances of falling into sin. Yes, it is very possible.
There has and will always be a concise and definite way to weighing or knowing a believer’s stand in Christ. Our sustainability is only guaranteed on the strength of our growth in Christ and our growth can only be measured by:
- Our degree of conformity to the image and stature of Christ
- Our access to light and revelation (unlocking spiritual mysteries)
Apostle Paul began to admonish the church in Corinth on the need to place a check on their spiritual standing in the kingdom; otherwise, a season will come (according to Ecclesiastes 3) when the tempest will really be fierce, a season will come when the billows of life will rise, and there are certainly going to be dark times of our lives. What then will be our anchor in those times? Note that these seasons are inevitable, it is not a sign of backsliding but they are seasons that are programmed and designed by the God.
Beloved, any structure and knowledge that is built outside conforming to the image of Christ and access to light will certainly fail us in the days of adversity. It is therefore important that we build up ourselves in Christ so as not to fall in the stormy days. We can do this by pressing deeper into the things of Christ and accessing greater light in Him. The answer to overcoming darkness has always been light. Therefore, press for greater light in Christ that can bail you out in the dark days to come.
