TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:15–27
MEMORY VERSE: “For although I am free in every way from anyone’s control, I have made myself a bond servant to everyone, so that I might gain the more [for Christ].” 1 Corinthians 9:19
One of the most misunderstood concepts in the body of Christ is the concept of SERVANTHOOD. Whilst we proclaim our liberty in Christ, our seat in heavenly places with Him, let us be reminded that we are called into His glorious light to serve the purposes of the Father (God).
Now, the true concept of SERVANTHOOD in the kingdom is not as unto servitude, that is, slavery or being bound with chains; but in the manner of laying down yourself, desires, and pursuits to live for the purposes of the Father.
Obviously, this is the secret to rising in the kingdom. Not many believers have really taken time to under study this secret. Apostle Paul in most of his writings addressed himself as servant of Jesus; and through his teachings, he began to explain this: Not that he wasn’t having a life of his own to live but to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better (Phil. 1:21).
The ultimate desire of God for mankind according to His predestined counsel is: “That through Him all men might be saved” (1 Tim. 2:4, John 3:17). Whereas 2 Corinthians 5:20 says we are Christ’s ambassadors, God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” As Ambassadors, our potentials are best maximized when our will is lost in His will, that we may serve His purposes.
Now observe the last statement of the Apostle: “… so that I might gain the more [for Christ].” John 12:32 speaking prophetically, says, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me”.
The secret to rising to the top is serving. Have you ever refused serving the purposes of the kingdom in and through your life? Have you refused serving even in your local church? Wakeup to the life of service that you may find your way up to maximizing your potentials and live a glorious life.
