ESOCS Devotional 20 June
TEXT: JOHN 16: 11-33
MEMORY VERSE: “These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 KJV
The daily activities of life, negative and strange news emanating from all over the world, the evil and wicked activities perpetrated by people, and the spiritual wickedness everywhere make life unbearable and bring sadness, sorrow, worry, pain, and much more. We live in a troubled world.
However, no matter what the devil does to make you sorrowful, the good news is Jesus has overcome the world;therefore be cheerful. Yes! Be of good cheer, be joyful, and celebrate; remove sorrow, pain, and shame out of your life. Never yield to the antics and deception of the devil. ESOCS Devotional 20 June

Here are the reasons you should be cheerful always:
- Jesus Has Overcome Sin: To be sinful is to be sorrowful. The quest to run away from sin has severally been defeated, so people can live in righteousness and holiness because Jesus overcame sin in its entirety. By this victory, we can be cheerful and celebrate again, for sin shall not have dominion over us; for we are not under the law but under grace (Rom. 6:14).
- Jesus Has Overcome Sickness: In most cases, the root of some sicknesses is traceable to sin. Therefore, if the remote cause has been handled, it means that victory over sickness is secured. It is another great reason we should cheer up, for we now have victory over all forms of sicknesses and diseases, and financial, academic, and marital failures. The Bible says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions… and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
- Jesus Has Overcome Satan: “Therefore rejoice ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the see, for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath…” (Rev. 12:12). “…be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Satan has been overcome; go, and celebrate.
BOTTOM LINE: Anytime the devil or circumstances of life want you to be sorrowful, do the direct opposite, and be cheerful, for Jesus has conquered.
