TEXT: LUKE 9:18-28
MEMORY VERSE: “About eight days after Jesus said this; He took Peter, John and James with Him and went unto a mountain to pray.” Luke 9:28 NIV
Jesus the ultimate trainer and mentor prepared some key officers for future leadership. He selected a group of key men; took them to a special place; spent time praying with them; invested special time speaking with them; and gave them a secret history that prepared them for the future.
He expanded His training to include the seventy unnamed disciples who followed Him. It is believed that both men and women made up the group of seventy trainees and their accomplishment greatly multiplied Jesus’ ministry in Judah.
Jesus expected a lot from them but He also gave them a lot. This group prepared each city for the Second Coming of Jesus. To whom much is given, much is also expected. It is our duty to train our officers for the work of the ministry. The law of explosive growth teaches that success is determined by whom and what the leader teaches his followers. In ESOCS church, there have been trainings and re-trainings of members during national conferences and at the provincial levels. Have you applied what you were taught; have you retrained another member formally or informally? Jesus trained His disciples to show us example.
To multiply one’s influence, one must teach other leaders and equip them with skills and principles to enable them to influence others. We should likewise prepare others for the work of God at our various levels in the ministry. When we do this, we move from addition to multiplication.
