TEXT: PROVERBS 2:1-9 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.” Proverbs 2:9 KJV
It is evident that the book of Proverbs is all about wisdom – yes, divine wisdom – not the abstract wisdom of the universities, but the practical wisdom of daily life. This is highly recommended to those who want to discover how to get wisdom, what its characteristics are, and what value it has.
In this text, there is an urgent appeal to the youth to eagerly accept and treasure wisdom. The youth is also entreated to apply the principles of wisdom to their lives – if they have respect for God. (vs. 1-5). While this text calls for total commitment to God’s instructions, there appears to be a compelling note for those who are seeking the knowledge of God, to apply the same zeal with which they would expend in finding hidden treasures of this world. It follows therefore that, the best thing young people can do, to live a great life, and to be acknowledged of God, is to study the word of God (2 Tim. 2:15).
If a person is sincere in his quest for God, he will come to understand the fear of God, which is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 1:7, Ps. 111:10), and thus submit his life to the will of God. This therefore will result in receiving divine wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, that will become protection for those who seek to be preserved in this life, and in the life to come (Ps. 58:11, Ps. 84:11, Matt. 5: 3-11). Often, the way of the wise man in his wisdom is contrasted with the way of the fool in his folly. The same message comes to us today as well. Therefore, let’s gain wisdom.
