TEXT: EXODUS 13:1-16
MEMORY VERSE: “You shall explain to your son on that day, This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt” (Exodus 13:8 AMP).
Recounting God’s mercies, care, blessings, and other benefits we receive from Him is an import aspect of our relationship with Him. When we pass such information to our children, we are helping to build and strengthen their faith and relationship with God; a good thing to do. In many scriptures, God commanded the Israelites to do it. It became a tradition in Israel. The psalmist said, “We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us [what] work You did in their days, in the days of old …” (Ps. 44:1-8 AMP).
Today, He requires us to do the same; and not to our children only but anyone who might be experiencing affliction or bad times in his life. If we focus our minds on counting our blessings, rather than concentrating on our misfortune, God would be pleased with us. We should train our hearts and minds to indulge in such practice.
David was one man had in him the attitude of remembering and recounting the benefits he had received from God in the time past: the deliverances, protection, victories, blessings, etc. It was like a culture in him. Before he fought Goliath, he told King Saul how God delivered him from the paw of the lion and of the bear (1 Sam. 17:32-37). In Psalm 103:1-5, he said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases …” (Ps. 103:1-5 NKJV). Like the Israelites and David, let it be a culture and tradition in us to always recount God’s benevolence towards us, and thank Him immensely from the depths of our hearts.
- Learn to thank God at all times and for all things.
- Lord, accept my thanks and praises at all times.
