TEXT: 2 KINGS 5:1-19
MEMORY VERSE: “She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy” (2 Kings 5:3 NIV).
Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram was leprous. He was great and well respected. But the solution to his problem came from a mere maiden who served his wife; not from the high and lofty.
We would observe in the Scripture that God has regard for the lowly, and prospers their enterprise. He crowns them with wisdom, and makes them excel in the things they do. Like Him, we should not despise anyone; the poor, destitute, beggarly, importunate, and indigent. There is a genius in everyone. God deposited it them at creation; for all were made in His likeness.
In several scriptures, we learn that God upholds the lowly, and uses them to accomplish His purposes. He loves their fellowship. The Bible says, “Better to be humble with lowly people than to share stolen goods with arrogant people” (Prov. 16:19).
Moses, Joseph, David, Esther, Daniel and his friends, our Mother Mary were people of lowly background, amongst others. But they accomplished great things for God. We should be humble, and of the same mind with God, for everyone or everything He has created is useful to Him one way or the other.
The lowly person or servant around you might be carrying in him the solution you desire for a particular problem. The relationship you build with such people would determine if they would come to your aid in time of need. Be kind to everyone, do not loathe, scorn, or look down on anyone. Such attitude is not a virtue. God hates it; and it profits nothing.
- Relate with everyone in humility and have regard for all.
- Lord, grant the spirit to treat people according to your will.
