TEXT: JOHN 20:11-23
MEMORY VERSE: “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, peace be unto you” (John 20:19).
God planned from the beginning that humanity should have the abundance of peace. There was peace and tranquillity in the Garden of Eden until the evil one came into the scene. Peace existed between man and his Creator until man decided to obey the evil one and ate the forbidden fruit. But God is committed to restoring that peace between Himself and man, and within the system of things, also.
In Psalm 29:11, the psalmist affirmed this truth when he said,“… the Lord will bless his people with peace.” In Jeremiah 29:11, God said, “For I know the thought that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil …” In our troubled life, He wants us to have peace. Be fore He left the world, our Lord Jesus Christ said to us, “Peace, I will leave with you, my peace I give unto you…” The place of peace in our life is found to be rooted in God. His peace with us and in us is the only thing that makes life meaningful in this wicked world.
As children of God in a congregation, we should crave for the peace that only the Lord Jesus can give. But we must meet certain standards to earn such peace. When the disciples gathered together behind closed doors, they did so in unity, and oneness of heart. They were not tearing each other apart. If we want the peace of God in our congregation, we must love one another with the love of Christ, as people who belong to the same family, the family of God in which Jesus is the First-Born Son.
One of the most important things we need in life is peace. We should be at peace with everyone else. The Bible encourages us to “… Seek peace, and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14). If we want to have peace in our life, we must maintain peace with God, and live in peace with other people. There is no other way. Let’s remember this truth always.
- Make conscious efforts to live in peace with other people.
- Lord, grant me the grace to live in peace with everyone else.
