ESOCS Devotional 11 October
TEXT: DANIEL 10:1-12 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3 KJV
Our text today contains one of the last visions of Daniel concerning Israel’s future. It came for the purpose of giving comfort to the people of God who were experiencing a great height of national frustration, even after their return to Palestine. A comfort through fulfilled prophecy that would sustain them through the coming years of turmoil they would experience in their homeland, while waiting for the coming of the Messiah – that is to say, what would befall them during the last days of national Israel.
In this passage, we see the need for spiritual discipline through fasting and fervent prayers (1 Thess. 5:17; Luke 18:1; 22:40-41). Following Daniel’s discipline of fasting and fervent prayers (vs. 2-3), an angel was sent to him from heaven, in response (vs. 5-12). See also King David’s Psalm 40:1-3.

Child of God, whatever the challenges may be, watch and pray. It may be witchcraft or wizardry (Dan. 10:13), watch and pray. It may be your sinful act, repent, watch and pray (Dan. 9:3-6). It may just be a matter of God’s timing (Psalm 40:1-3), keep watching, keep waiting, keep praying. All must be well (2 Kings 4:25-26).
CHALLENGES
- In 1 Samuel 1: 6-7, we see that Hannah’s condition had grown to a point of social ridicule. She was mocked and embarrassed all day long. But she held on to her faith in God and kept praying until God visited her. Do you think it is possible to wait like Hannah these days? (Gen 21: 1-2)
PRAYER POINT
- Lord God of Abraham, may the grace of Abraham become my portion, in Jesus name. Amen.
