TEXT: DANIEL 9:1-19 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “So shall my word be that goeth forth out my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11 KJV
In our text today, we see Prophet Daniel interceding for Israel and asking for God’s mercy to end the seventy years of national frustration and tribulation in captivity. But God’s word stands sure.
In Leviticus 26:1-13, God rehearsed the covenant He made with Israel on Mount Sinai. In Leviticus 26:14-39, He warned against the dangers of the evil that will befall them if they failed on their part. In Leviticus 26:40-45, God also talked about the return of His mercies. In Jeremiah 25:11-12, God spoke angrily about their punishment in Babylon for seventy years, which shall come to an end when God will remember Zion with mercies.

Our text today begins with Daniel praying that Israel would soon be released from their captivity in Babylon, as the seventy years of captivity prophesied by Jeremiah had almost come to an end. Between 606 BC and 538 BC (66 years), the Babylonian captivity prophesied by Jeremiah (Jer. 25:11-12; 29:10) raged, but in 539 BC, the Persians conquered Babylon, just three years to the seventieth year in captivity, and Daniel was praying to God that the release of the Jews would soon follow (Dan. 9:1-7).
Child of God, what had God said about you, for which you trust Him? Pray fervently like Daniel for His mercies that endureth forever.
CHALLENGES
- The scripture in Isaiah 55:11 has said it all. No word from the Lord God Almighty is uttered in vain. Are you sure you trust God enough for His promises, or are you already making consultations at the sides. David waited patiently, and it was well with him (Psalm 40:1-3)
PRAYER POINT
- Lord, grant me the requisite long-suffering ability unto the end that I may celebrate in you. Amen.
