ESOCS Devotional 1 October 2026 – What You Sow, You Reap
MEMORY VERSE: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 KJV
TEXT: GALATIANS 6:1-10
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load.
6 Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

It is a principle of life that one reaps what he sows (Hosea 8:7). It would certainly be a surprise if one planted corn and pumpkins came up. One must not deceive oneself into thinking that one can escape the consequences of one’s behaviour. To think one can is to mock God, for He has said we will reap what we sow, not only in this life, but also in the life that is to come (Romans 2:6). The story of Cain presents us with a good example. He sowed evil due to a dirty heart towards God, and envy and jealousy towards his brother. He reaped evil (Genesis 4:1-16).
The above law is true in other areas of life. It is a law of life – both physical and spiritual. Physically, if you gossip about your friends, you will lose their friendship. Those who cause trouble in the church and society reap trouble and evil, falsehood bears falsehood, etc.
Spiritually, if you plan to please your own desires (sow to the flesh), you reap a crop of sorrow and evil. If you plant to please God, you reap joy and everlasting life. You may repent of evil deed (e.g. murder), you will still reap what you sowed.
It is a natural law of retributive justice – what you sow is what you reap. What kinds of seeds are you sowing in the soil of your life?
Reflections
- Today, many people in churches and society are planting so many seeds.
Prayer
- Lord, expose those who are planting evil in the body of Christ and our nation.
