Women in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have turned to prayer amid growing concerns over insecurity and its impact on farming activities in the area.
The women gathered on Sunday to pray for peace and an end to attacks, saying the deteriorating security situation has made it increasingly difficult for residents to move freely and tend to their farms.
Some of the women, who rely on farming for their livelihood, expressed fears that going to their farms could expose them to attacks, forcing many to stay away from their means of sustenance.
The development comes following the reported killing and beheading of Mrs. Ozemenu Wachukwu, a native of Rumuohia in Emohua, who was allegedly attacked close to her farm by unidentified persons.
The incident has reportedly heightened concerns among residents and added to calls for improved security across the farming communities.
At the prayer gathering, the women sought divine intervention against further killings and attacks, while praying for the safe return of peace to the area.
They also appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents, particularly farmers, and restore confidence in the affected communities.
The women said effective security is essential for residents to safely return to their farms and continue their livelihoods without fear.
