No fewer than eight aspirants have indicated interest in contesting the 2027 Rivers State governorship election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
The party also praised former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for picking the ADC presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the Rivers State ADC Chairman-elect, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpaa, said the party was witnessing increasing political interest across the state.
He described Amaechi’s presidential ambition as a major boost for the party, adding that ADC had become a preferred platform for credible leadership and progressive politics.
Dimkpaa disclosed that those showing interest in the governorship race include former public office holders, technocrats, professionals, and private sector operators.
According to him, the aspirants include a former Secretary to the State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former Chairman of NIMASA, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, and a former Chief Medical Director of UPTH.
He added that several others had also expressed interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats under the ADC platform.
Dimkpaa maintained that the party remains committed to internal democracy, transparent processes, and issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
