A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has opened up on the circumstances surrounding the attempted impeachment of former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Speaking on the development, Elliot said he was out of the country when the impeachment move began.
According to him, he was in South Africa for a wedding when the process commenced and only became aware of the situation after returning to Nigeria.
“I was in South Africa for a wedding when the impeachment of Obasa commenced. I was confused when I returned. I saw my colleagues signing and I signed too, thinking the order was from the presidency until the president called us to return the speaker, which we did,” Elliot said.
His comments come amid continued discussions surrounding the leadership crisis that rocked the Lagos Assembly and the eventual return of Obasa as Speaker following interventions by party leaders.
