Some residents of Akokwa Waterfront along the Iloabuchi axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that was demolished Today, have pleaded with the state government to come to their aid by providing accomodation for them.
A displaced resident in a chat with us, described the move as an “act of wickedness,” adding that the 7-day ultimatum was never enough for them to vacate the area.
According to him, they thought it was a joke not until they saw bulldozers demolishing their buildings, this morning.
He said it is unbelievable that they have been kicked out of their homes after voting for the state governor in 2015 and 2019, without any form of compensation.
Another resident, identified as Mr Pauloo, pleaded with the state governor, Nyesom Wike to assist them financially, no matter how small.
He said the act may likely lead to an increase in crime and criminality, adding that many persons have no where to go to.
He took at swipe at security operatives who accompanied the bulldozers to the area, for being too hostile.
