DCLM Daily Manna 9 November 2026: Assured Defence
KEY VERSE: There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early” (Psalm 46:4,5)
TEXT: Psalm 46:1-11
God is our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be shaken into the midst of the seas,
3 Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling and tumult. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God will help her right early [at the dawn of the morning].
6 The nations raged, the kingdoms tottered and were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our Fortress and High Tower). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations and wonders in the earth.
9 He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.
10 Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our High Tower and Stronghold). Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

When it comes to matters of faith and the assurance that God is able to save to the uttermost, there are three schools of thought. First is the group of those who feel secure but are not sure. The second group includes those who are sure but not secure. In the third group are those who not only feel secure but also are equally sure. The first group includes believers in Christ who are saved but lack assurance of salvation. There’s great jeopardy here! In the second group are professing Christians who believe that once they are saved, they are saved forever. This is contrary to what Scripture uniformly teaches.
The third group includes born-again believers who experience a warm and secure relationship with Christ each day. The only basis of their salvation is the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. They believe in the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. They love the brethren and are obedient to Christ’s commandments. No wonder they feel very secure, not in their works but in what Christ has already done for them.
In today’s text, the psalmist advanced some salient negative points that can affect earthly living. There’s the roaring of mountains, the shaking of the earth, and the rage of heathens. None of these consequential events can confront the might of the eternal God, the Almighty. As believers, we must understand the place of God’s majesty in human affairs. We live in a world where myriads of troubles abound. Yet our God is above them all. The psalmist gave us the needed assurance coming from the personality and presence of Jehovah God. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The believer’s assurance is grounded in this dual power: God’s presence and His immutable personality.
The Bible says that “they that know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” There’s a knowledge available to believers in Christ that mere mortals are not privy to: it’s the understanding that God rules in the affairs of men and even in invisible matters. He is the River that gladdens the city of God. He controls the wind, the inanimate world, as well as animated life. The oceans and hills are under His power. This is the source of believers’ security and safety that the psalmist celebrates. This is the reason believers of all ages are not confounded by the situations and circumstances in which they find themselves. This is why living outside the will of God is dangerous. This is why sinners must urgently repent of their sins and surrender to God through Jesus Christ.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God with us is more valuable than the combined wealth of nations.
