The Nigeria Center for Disease Control says, going by the poor attitude of Nigerians towards the covid-19 pandemic, the worst is yet to be seen in the country.
Speaking at a conference in Abuja, on Monday, Director-general of the Commission, Chikwe Ihekweazu said more than 2000 deaths have been recorded so far.
Ihekweazu, who noted that it is painful to say that there is a possibility that we are yet to see the worst of the pandemic, said people’s attitude towards the pandemic is disturbing.
He said despite the covid-19 pandemic, Nigeria is also facing “multiple concurrent diseases” such as; monkeypox, cholera, yellow fever, Lassa fever and others.
“Every week, we detect cases of yellow fever, Lassa fever, measles and other infectious diseases that are endemic in Nigeria. The reality is that our tropical climates, population density, poor socio-economic factors, leaves us at risk of annual multiple concurrent disease outbreaks,” he said.
