A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has remanded Julie Akue Onwuegbu and her husband, Wisdom Onwuegbu, at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre over an alleged N10 million land fraud.
The couple was arraigned by the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice S.I. Mark on a three-count charge of advance fee fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that the defendants collected N10 million from a buyer in April 2024 after falsely claiming ownership of a plot of land at Queen Park Estate, Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
They pleaded not guilty. Justice Mark ordered their remand and adjourned the case to July 10, 2026, for a ruling on their bail application.
The EFCC said investigations showed the land did not belong to the first defendant and that part of the alleged proceeds was transferred to a company account belonging to her husband.
