The Rivers State Government, has denied reports that the on going construction work by Julius Berger is responsible for the flash flood been witnessed in Port Harcourt and its environs.
The state Commissioner for Works, Tasie Amadi in a chat with journalists, yesterday, said indiscrimate dumping of refuse in drainages and building on flood canals are responsible for the flood.
He said despite billions spent by the government to clean up canals and drainages, residents continue to fill them up with refuse.
He also said areas where Julius Berger is not working are also experiencing flash flood, as he called on residents to desist from the act.
Mr. Amadi stated that buildings on canals must be demolished and that it is left for the State Executive Council to decide if his recommendation will be carried out.
However, the Manager of Port Harcourt Mall, Chioma Okoye had yesterday, said the flood situation in the area, worsened after Julius Berger worked on the road in front of the mall.
The Mall was flooded due to the heavy downpour yesterday.
