The Chinese foreign ministry has refuted ongoing rumors that it plans on taking over Nigeria due to the clause in the $500 million loan it released to the federal government
The ministry in a statement Today said there is no such plans by the Chinese government as they are only committed to enhancing investment and financial cooperation with African countries.
“China always gives full consideration to debt sustainability and seeks mutually-acceptable proposals through equal and friendly consultations,” it said.
There have been reports that the federal government had ceded Nigeria’s sovereignty to China, following the loan it secured from them, which has seen many stakeholders, come out to criticize the government.
