One Decene Akinmetonibi who hails from Abua/Odual local government area in Rivers State, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for adopting and selling a three-year-old baby by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt.
Decene was arraigned on 3 counts of conspiracy, unlawful adoption and selling of a baby identified as Opele Honest.
Chief Magistrate, Rita Ogugua sentenced Mr Docene to 5 years in count 1, 7 years in count 2 and 7 years in count 3 making it a total of nineteen years which is to run concurrently.
She stated that the prosecution was able to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt.
She also revealed that the accused stole the child in Abua and travelled to Eleme Local Government to sell the baby.
The act, she said is against the Provisions of Child Right Act and Rivers State Child Right Protection Act.
