The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State and member of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday read a letter from Chinda notifying the House of his decision to leave the PDP and join the ruling APC. The letter announcing his defection was dated April 23, 2026.
Following the formal announcement of his party switch, Chinda also resigned from his position as Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Chinda, a close political associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, recently emerged as the APC governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
