The Rivers State Government has approved the implementation of the new salary structure for staff of state-owned tertiary institutions, effective from 2026.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, disclosed this during a familiarisation visit to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt.
According to a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Ngozi Okiridu, Nwagor said payment of the new salary structure and arrears would begin once funds are released by the state government.
He said the implementation aligns with the 2026 Federal Government agreements with ASUU and SSANU, covering the CONUASS and CONTISS salary structures, as well as improved allowances and other benefits.
The commissioner urged IAUE to strengthen research, comply with NUC standards and deepen partnerships with industries and the private sector.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Okechuku Onuchuku, thanked Governor Siminalayi Fubara for approving the implementation and appealed for increased government intervention in hostels, classrooms, laboratories, security fencing, power supply and the rehabilitation of the university’s access road.
